Judge:

John Poon

John Poon's artistic journey spans over 35 years, marked by a deep commitment to his craft. Graduating from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, he transitioned seamlessly into a career as both an artist and an educator. Initially starting as an instructor of Drawing and Painting, John eventually rose to the role of Director of Foundations, overseeing the development of budding artists in fundamental techniques.

Throughout his career, John's artwork has been his primary focus. His pieces can be found in collections nationwide, both public and private. Notable achievements include receiving the Best of Show at the National Wildlife Museum Annual Plein Air Invitational, along with Artist Choice Award at the Maui Plein Air Invitational, and the Gold Medal Best of Show at the Maynard Dixon invitational. John's art reflects the varied landscapes and subjects that have inspired him during his travels across the country, from the majestic peaks of the Midwest to the tranquil boats and marshes of the Carolina coastlines. In each piece, he seeks to capture the essence of these regions, seeking to convey the beauty he finds in the world around him.

Represented by prominent galleries such as the Mountain Trails Gallery in Park City, UT, and Jackson Hole, WY, The LePrince Gallery in Charleston, SC, and the Walls Fine Art Gallery in White Sulphur Springs, WV,

John's art continues to captivate audiences across the country. Despite his success, he remains grounded in his passion for creating art, drawing inspiration from the landscapes of his home state, Utah, as well as the varied regions that have left an indelible mark on his artistic journey.

"I'm compelled to capture the beauty of the world around me, influenced by a lifetime of experiences. While nature's grandeur is nearly incomprehensible and serves as the inspiration for every composition, still they remain as inanimate objects. My primary interest has always been with the viewer, aiming to establish a connection with my fellow individual, and sharing a deeper appreciation of the world around us."
